In 1961, three friends, Christiane Gautrot, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet, from the "Beaux Arts"( a famous art and design school in Paris} got together to open a boutique where they sold their printed fabrics and an eclectic melange of decorative items. 1968 is the year their first candle creations were introduced: Cannelle (Cinnamon), The ( Tea) and Aubepine (Hawthorne). These were very basic and uncomplicated scents, featuring only single fragrance notes and that have remained on the bestseller list of Diptyque candles since their inception. Along with candles came the delightful room sprays that reinforce the candle scents, and the British inspired toilet waters with their matching soaps & hair&shower gels. Diptyque is the only manufacturer in the world of scented candles that offers such a wide variety of scents.
